"Power of the Pen" is a competitive writing team that competes with other schools in our area and throughout Ohio. Everyone who attends our practices makes the team. Both seventh and eighth graders compete to qualify at our "Power of the Pen" tournaments. Each grade will include 6 seats for tournament competition. Students will be selected by Dec. 1 for tournament competition. Writers respond creatively to writing prompts provided to them. They are judged holistically based on comparisons with other entries as well as organization, creativity, colorful, figurative language and a direct response to the prompt. Our first tournament is Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006 at Field Middle School. Winners at the tournament proceed to the regional tournament on Saturday, March 4, 2006 at Kent State University (tentative). "Creative minds need to be challenged. . . ." If you have a passion for writing and are in seventh or eighth grade, please join us on Monday's (when school is in session) from 3:15 - 4:00 P.M. in Room 106 at Kimpton Middle School.
