Lakeview Intermediate School

General Information 2006

Homeroom Assignments

We have 35 homerooms and most homeroom teachers are organized in teaching pairs. The students will be assigned to a homeroom within the teaching pair. Class sizes are approximately 26:1. The teaching pairs will provide instruction in: reading, written expression (English, handwriting, spelling) math, science/health and social studies. Outside of the traditional two-persona teaching pairs, we currently have a Grade 5 self-contained unit, a Grade 6 self-contained unit and three Grade 5 self-contained classrooms taught by a job shared teaching assignment.
Homerooms will be identified as a three-digit number such as 532 or 571. The digit in the hundred’s column will denote the student’s grade level. Please memorize the three-digit number for your child’s homeroom once they have been assigned.
Specialists will provide instruction for physical education, vocal music, instrumental music, art, and strings. Special Education units at Lakeview include: SLD, tutoring and instruction, SBH/ED, Multiple-Handicapped, speech, language, hearing impaired and OASIS. Active IEP’s and 504 plans will be followed at Lakeview.

PTA Involvement

The Lakeview PTA will be actively involved with the activities of the school. Volunteers will be needed to help with the specific projects and to help weekly at school. Watch for their newsletter and the school’s newsletter “Roars from the Lion’s Den” for additional information. The PTA’s first meeting will be on Thursday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Media Center.
Beyond the Textbooks
Lakeview students have traditionally had the opportunity to participate in the following programs: Grade 6 Spelling Bee, Outdoor Education for Grade 6, Student Council, Safety Patrol, Grade 5 Family Life, Grade 6 DARE, Choir, Orchestra, Band, Lakeview’s Drama Club, Ski Club and much, much more. We will participate in the community’s Character Counts program. This program continues to concentrate on the six pillars of good character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, Citizenship.
Lakeview students will take the state’s Achievement Tests in May 2007. Grade 5 students will be tested in reading, mathematics, science and social studies. Grade 6 will take the reading and mathematics test. Practice achievement tests will be administered with the students and informational packets will be utilized to keep parents informed during our preparation for Ohio’s achievement assessment.
