KIMPTON MIDDLE SCHOOL PTSA MEETING
October 14, 2008
Attendance: 13 members were in attendance.
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by President Sue Cirner. Sue asked Karen Wright, a member of the school board, to speak about the upcoming levy. There was a brief discussion on school funding.
Minutes: The minutes of the September 9, 2008 meeting were presented by Doris Deleandro. The minutes were filed as presented.
Treasurer's Report: Treasurer Jodie Lawson presented her report. The balance was $6,823.11 as of October 3, 2008. The projector and elmo have been ordered and the invoices paid, as well as the bonding insurance for 3 years. The report was filed for audit.
Correspondence: There was no new correspondence.
Principal's Report: Mr. Knisely is seeking a volunteer to coordinate the volunteers that will give extra help to students, i.e. reading tests, helping with homework after school. Janet Hudak was suggested and she will be contacted. Mr. Knisely thanked PTSA, Karen Wright, Wendy Dyer and the book fair workers for the successful book fair.
Teacher Representative: Pam Groom, the advisor for Science Olympiad, is looking for adults to chaperone at the October 31 dance from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Sue Cirner will send an e-mail about this.
Committee Report: Spirit Wear: Penny Schirra reported that there were about $1200 in sales and she estimates a profit of between $200 and $300. The 16 sweatshirts for the assembly before winter break were ordered.
Council Report: Angie Thomas gave the Council report. She reminded everyone of the membership deadline date and the District 13 Conference which will be October 28 at Tallmadge High School. There also will be a PTA mock election on October 30. She had no specific report on the Council dance.
Parliamentarian: Karen Wright reported that she received the Parliamentarian's books from last year and will go through the materials.
President's Report: Sue Cirner reported that Carol Downing will do the newsletter. The deadline for articles is October 24. The high school PTSA is looking for each unit to work one night at the concession stand. Kimpton will work at the boys basketball game with Hudson on Friday, February 13. Sue talked with Chip McClintock with Green & White Landscaping about working on the front beds, bushes and trees. His price was $600 to tear out what was not viable and clean up the rest. Mr. Knisely moved to hire Green & White Landscaping for $600 to do the landscaping work in the front of the building. Jodie Lawson seconded the motion and the motion carried. The Green Committee will work on getting planters, benches and plants. Pam Groom will check with her husband to see if he would be willing to build some planters and/or benches.
Committee Reports:
Membership: Sue Cirner reported that the membership is around 425. Fifty-three of the staff have joined PTSA.
Book Fair: Karen Wright presented the list of book fair volunteers and thanked them for their help. The sales totaled $6,078.68, less the 25% discount. The library received $576.50 worth of books and $420 worth of books were purchased for the Reading & Writing Festival. The other books for the festival that were not available from Scholastic were purchased from Learned Owl. The total cost for the festival books was $833.00.
Conference Dinners: Dorothy Iwanski will coordinate the conference dinner for the teachers on October 16. It will be a pot luck meal served at 3:00 p.m.
Reflections: Christine Baker was not present. She sent a report saying that 84 students requested rules and that 16 entries were submitted.
Unfinished Business: There was no unfinished business.
New Business: Angie Thomas will take care of the Outstanding Educator and Helping Hands awards. The forms will be in the office.
Announcements:
The next meeting will be Tuesday, November 11 at 7:00 p.m.
The meeting adjourned at 8:10 pm.
