A Note from the Office

Wow! I am amazed at how quickly the last month just flew by. I hope you had a wonderful time of Thanksgiving!
Spending time with family and friends. I cannot believe we are full swing into the second quarter of this 2008-2009 school year. I first want to thank you for your continued dedication and support at home as we strive to help your children achieve their academic goals. As I look at the calendar we have only 10 days to serve our students until break. This can present quite a challenge, however our staff continues to engage in conversations and collaborate with their colleagues to develop lessons that will increase student engagement and instructional effectiveness.

As I reflect back on the month of November, we had quite a bit of activity. I was so very impressed with the turn out for our Grandparents Evening on Friday, November 14th. What an honor it was for me to have the privilege to meet so many grandparents. I was also overwhelmed with the attendance for our PTA’s Daybreak with Dad. I am also very pleased with our “Fishcreek Honors . . . “ wall of honor as we salute your loved ones who have served and are currently serving our country. I also want to commend the Grade 4 Choir for putting on a spectacular concert on November 12th. It was a great evening as the students sang songs about our American Heritage. On November 19th Fishcreek, along with the rest of SMFCSD buildings participated in a district-wide School Safety Drill. We were pleased to have members of the Stow Police Department on site to observe our procedures. House Bill 422 requires all schools to perform one School Safety Drill by December 1st of each year. I am proud of Fishcreek for being ahead of the state, as we conduct a total of four School Safety Drills each year, one per quarter. This has been the practice at Fishcreek for [I believe] the past eight years.

Finally, I want to thank everyone who helped this week to make our PTA Scholastic Book Fair an overwhelming success.

Please remember, our last day of school this month will be Friday, December 19th and we will return on Monday, January 5th. I pray you have a wonderful and restful break with your family and enjoy the holiday.

James R. Saxer
Principal

P.S. I want to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers for my Daughter Dallas, who was hospitalized with Septic Shock secondary to pneumonia due to parainfluenza type II, GAS and MSSA complicated by ARDS. (Boy is that a mouthful). After 13 days in the hospital she is home and doing very well!!

SAFE SCHOOLS HELPLINE

Stow-Munroe Falls City Schools has a new system for the anonymous toll-free "safe schools" hotline. The district used to use a company out of Columbus for this service, but now it is done locally. The phone number has changed. If you have any of the old posters, magnets, or brochures around your house please throw these away. The correct phone number is 1-866-484-4776. Again, this service is anonymous.
