District Rated EXCELLENT WITH DISTINCTION

The state has added a new designation to the Local Report Card this year. Previously, the top designation was EXCELLENT. This year the top level of performance is EXCELLENT WITH DISTINCTION.

With the Value-Added measure counting for the first time this year, the state looks at the amount of progress each sub group makes toward the passing level or Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). Because the district's Students with Disabilities subgroup has made significant gains toward becoming proficient over the last two years, they have met the AYP requirement.

Finally, because Stow-Munroe Falls City Schools has met AYP and exceeded the expected gains for two consecutive years, the District has improved one level in the Report Card Rating.

“The new rating of Excellent with Distinction is based on student achievement,” said Superintendent Dr. Russell D. Jones. "We are one of 74 districts in the state to achieve this wonderful milestone. We have a lot to be proud of. This represents a lot of people doing a lot of good work – from our teachers, students, parents, support staff, administrators, volunteers and many others.”

Four of our nine buildings are rated Excellent with Distinction and five are rated Excellent.

We have many reasons to celebrate!
• The district met 28 out of 30 indicators (last year 27/30). The two indicators not met were Grade 5 Math (74.5%) and Grade 8 Social Studies (74.3%) – both by less than 1 percent!

• The district’s Performance Index went up from 101.0 to 102.3.

• Scores are up in 12 test areas:
Grade 4 Reading, Grade 4 Math, Grade 5 Math, Grade 5 Social Studies, Grade 6 Math, Grade 8 Math, Grade 8 Social Studies, Grade 8 Science, OGT Reading, OGT Math, OGT Social Studies, OGT Science.

• Both the Attendance and Graduation rates went up.

• The District had zero untested students – all students were tested.
