1. What is the “Activity Fee” (Pay to Participate)?

A fee for students who choose to participate in extra-curricular activities (sports and clubs) that are supervised/coached by an individual employed by the district.


2. Why did the Board of Education approve this plan?

The Activity Fees are necessary to offset costs associated with running these programs and are part of the District’s overall financial reduction plan.


3. Is the Activity Fee program for the 2008-09 school year only?

No, it is the district’s intention to continue the program beyond the 2008-2009 school years.


4. Who is affected by this new program?

Currently affected are students in Grades 7-12.


5. What is the fee?

$75 per Activity/Club; $100 per Sport.


6. Is there a maximum that a family will pay?

Yes, there is maximum “cap” per family of $300 for the school year.


7. I qualify for Free/Reduced Lunch, is there a discount?

Yes. Fees are reduced for those who are eligible and qualified. If you qualify for the reduced lunch program your fee will be reduced by 25% and by 50% if you qualify for the free lunch program.

Reduced:
Activity $56.25
Sport $75.00

Free:
Activity $37.50
Sport $50.00

Eligibility for the Free and Reduced Lunch program also reduces the family cap from $300 to $225 for families qualifying for the reduced lunch program and to $150 for those families qualifying for the free lunch program.

If you are eligible for free or reduced lunch, you will need to fill out a new application for 2008-09 and a waiver form, allowing the food service department to share the information with other district programs. 8. I’ve heard that the fee for high school Marching Band is $100. Why is it considered a “sport” and not a club?

Ohio Revised Code stipulates a difference between activities that have students participating (sports/band) and students that participate and also manage the activity (club). By this definition, students participating in band and/or sports fall into the same category.

9. What about Music and Choir classes at Kimpton?

At Kimpton - Band, Choir and Instrumental Music are exempt from fees because they are classes and are not considered "clubs."

10. My child is in a fall sport, when is the payment due?

The due date for student-athletes at Kimpton Middle School is Saturday, Aug. 23, for the following sports: Football, Cross Country, Volleyball, and Cheerleading.

The due date for student-athletes at Stow-Munroe Falls High School is Friday, Aug. 15, for the following sports: Tennis, Volleyball, Football, Soccer, Cross Country, Field Hockey, Golf and Cheerleading.

11. When is the fee due for Clubs?

The due date for both the Middle and High School students is Monday, Sept. 8.


12. What are the payment deadlines for Winter and Spring sports?

For Kimpton Middle School Students: Winter sports (boys) - November 7, 2008; Winter sports (girls) - January 9, 2009; Spring sports - April 3, 2009.

For SMFHS students: Winter sports - November 21, 2008; Spring Sports - March 20, 2009.


13. Where can I get a payment form?

The Kimpton Middle School mailed home the forms with the Kimpton students' report cards in June.
The High School Principal mailed letters with the forms in late July. Forms are also available in the main office and on our website. Click here. (PDF)

Parents may also pay online at our SMF WebStore with either VISA or Master Card. A handling fee applies.


14. Is there a list of Clubs that are covered under this program?

Yes. The official list is on the WebStore Link.

 

15. Are there any circumstances in which a refund will be given?

The only circumstance in which a refund will be given is if you paid the full Sport or Activity fee prior to the Aug. 31 deadline for the free/reduced lunch application. (This circumstance exists only with Fall 2008 sports). Refunds will be issued to families who paid the full amount and are eligible for free/reduced for 2008-09 school year.
